A root canal treatment basically extracts the decay in the tooth’s root and pulp. The tooth has an outer covering (the enamel), the dentin layer, and a softcore. It is the core that contains the pulp. Blood vessels, connective tissue, and nerves are constituents of the pulp. Once decay reaches the soft inner core, pulp inflammation occurs, and the only saving grace is a root canal. Do root canals hurt? The answer is yes. Many patients have compared the pain to that experienced during a tooth filling.
So how do you know it is time for this treatment? The only sure way to find out is by paying your dentist a visit. There are many warning signs you should watch out for. This brief discusses some of them: 1.Persistent Pain: You should look out for this sign. You may experience this pain all the time, or sometimes, but it always returns. The pain may be felt in your tooth bone, jaw, face, or in the rest of the teeth. Root canal, however, isn’t the only cause of the pain in your tooth. Other potential causes include:
2.Increased sensitivity of the Tooth: When the sensitivity of your tooth to cold and heat increases, that may be a warning sign. You may suddenly start feeling some discomfort whenever you have that hot cup of tea or ice cream. This indicates that the nerves and blood vessels in the tooth are damaged or infected. The pain may stay long after you stop drinking or eating. If this is the case, a root canal may be recommended. 3.Tooth Discoloration: Your teeth may assume another color when the pulp is infected. Internal tissues may break down and cause damage to the roots, giving your tooth a grey-black color. Trauma to your tooth also has the same effects. Although several other factors may cause tooth discoloration, visiting our dentists in Roseville ca does no harm. 4.Swollen Gums:Sometimes, the surrounding gums of the damaged teeth may swell. The swelling can be recurrent. It feels tender when touched and doesn’t cause any pain at all. Acidic waste resulting from decayed pulp tissues causes the swelling. This can lead to edema on the exterior of the root tip region. A little pimple may pop up on the gums. This is referred to as a parulis, gum boil or abscess. Because of the tooth infection, the boil oozes pus. This makes you have bad breath and taste in the mouth. 5.Pain when Eating or Touching the Tooth: The sensitivity of your tooth when eating or upon touch is an indication of severe nerve damage or tooth decay. The solution is a root canal treatment. 6.Chipped/ Cracked Tooth: This may result from an accident or sports injuries. This opens ways for bacteria to get in and cause infection and inflammation. The result is increased sensitivity and pain, necessitating a root canal. Are you looking for general dentistry services in Roseville? Rock Rose Dental has got your back. It was really helpful when you said that a sign of needing one could be persistent pain felt in the jaw and face. For the past couple of weeks, I have been feeling severe pain in my back tooth that has been causing pain in my jaw, and I was wondering if that was a sign of needing a root canal. I'll have to look into finding a dentist that can perform one for me so that I can feel better.
